Printers 101

Hi,
It’s Andrew.
If you’re buying a printer or thinking about getting one, you might wanna hear this.
I sell printers to people all the time. And the number one question I get is “why is the ink tank more expensive than the ink cartridge?”
And I always tell them, “don’t focus on the printer price.”
The pricing strategy of printers is similar to razor and blades. One needs the other. One doesn’t work without the other.
So it makes sense to weigh both the printer and the ink.
But the real cost? It’s the ink.
That’s the thing you’re gonna be paying for over and over and over again.
So if you’re using it frequently, you want to be saving in the long run. If you’re not using it much, you want to save in the short run.
So the real question is:
“How often am I actually printing?”
As a rule of thumb:
If you’re printing almost every day, or in high volume, you’re gonna want an ink tank printer because the cost per page is way lower.
If you’re printing occasionally, once in a while, you’re better off with a cartridge printer.
Lower upfront, and you’re not constantly buying ink anyway.
That’s where most people get it wrong.
They try to save money upfront…but end up spending more over time without realizing it.
If you’re not sure which one fits your usage,
just tell us how often you print and we’ll help you out.
Talk soon,
Andrew
